20th Anniversary of Sex and the City
It's hard to believe that Sex and the City was 20 years ago!
I was a bit late to the SATC (almost like everything else ) granted I was 15 when it came out but it was a defining moment in my 20's and sometimes it has been in my 30's although I only watch episodes when I am having a really bad day. I only have the movies on DVD, season 3 and the essentials collection which is episodes put into different categories such as Mr. Big etc.
Today as my Sunday thoughts I am sharing some of my favorite episodes of the show. I will a brief synopsis of the episode and why I love the episode.
My favorite season of all time is season 3 because it's the only season I own lol but it's one of the best for a ton of reasons. Carrie meeting Aden, Miranda getting back with Steve, Charlotte meeting Trey and getting married, Samantha moving to the meat packing distract and the hilarity it ensues (oh and the guy with the funky spunk!). Plus Carrie confronts Natasha! Oh and did I mention Matthew McConaughey? He guest stars in Season 3 when the girls go to California! (And Carrie gets a Brazilian!) Plus Carrie wears a TON of flowers in this season.
These are no particular order:
The Real Me: Season 4 Episode 50
Synopsis: Carrie is asked to be in a fashion show as a 'normal' person with a mix of celebrities and is reluctant to do it. She ends up doing it despite having to wear jeweled panties with a coat on the runway (and yet she wears men's underwear) as she goes out she breaks her heel and nose dives it on the runway only to be stepped over by Heidi Klum (She's fashion roadkill!) but Carrie stands up and walks the runway like the fierce queen that she is and inspires the rest of the girls to gain the own confidence.
Why I love this episode: Because it shows Carrie as a vulnerable real human being. Some people have misgivings about Carrie in media but she lands on her face then stands back up and rocks it.
Politically Erect: Season 3 Episode 32 I promise I am only posting 3 episode of season 3!
Synopsis: Carrie is dating a politician and he has a very kinky fetish, Samantha dates a short guy, Miranda is going "steady" with Steve and Charlotte throws a used date party.
Why I love this episode: The politician despite his 'kink" tells Carrie her newspaper article (hence Sex and the City) is too rated R and that she needs to make it more PG. So her payback? She writes an article about his kink (golden showers) she doesn't name him in the article and then deletes it.
Now if it was 2018, the article would have gotten in the wrong hands (her computer hacked) and Carrie would have been in such hot water so would the politician (hello sex scandal) also Carrie would more likely be a blogger.
Hot Child in the city: Season 3 Episode 45
Synopsis: Miranda has to get braces, Samantha has to do PR for a bratty 13-year old and Carrie is dating a young Comic Book owner (She buys a Wonder Woman comic!!) it makes me laugh because the girls are questioning their youth. Which I've done time and time again ha!
Why I love this episode: Carrie's outfit in the beginning is super cute! Carrie learns that the hunky comic book hunk still lives with his parents (awkward) then we she and Adam get high he blames Carrie bringing the weed to his mother and Carrie totally steals it! Hilarity. Miranda gives up the braces because it makes dating really awkward.
Cock a Doodle Do: Season 3 Episode 48
Synopsis: Mr. Big divorces his wife (the idiot stick figure with no soul) and wants to see Carrie. Miranda is against it, she and Carrie get into a fight. Miranda thinks she is falling into a rut with ordering the same Chinese take out, and Samantha has issues with her trans neighbors.
Why I love this episode: Carrie doesn't get back with Big (this time) after their torrid affair (earlier in season 3) which is probably the smartest thing she's done in the entire season (I was team Aidan). Miranda meets up with Steve after planing to confront the Chinese Restaurant hostess. She realizes she's a bit of a hard as then tries to change. In the end Samantha hosts a BBQ with trans queens and everyone is happy.
The Turtle and the Hare: Season 1 Episode 9
Synopsis: The girls go to a wedding and Carrie founds out later that Big never wants to re-marrying and it upsets Carrie. Charlotte discovers her first BOB (battery operated boyfriend) and would rather stay in with said toy instead of meeting men. Also Stanford tries to pass off straight to his grandmother to get his inheritance.
Why I love this episode: Charlotte getting a vibrator obviously. I also like Samantha taking a random guy they met at the wedding called the Turtle and gives him a makeover. I found it funny that Stanford's grandmother knew he was gay and all he gets is her channel suits.
Ex and the City: Season 2 Episode 30
Synopsis: Learning how to be friends with your ex. Carrie tries to be friends with Big after he is dating the idiot stick figure with no soul and finds out their engaged. Miranda also tries to friend Steve then sleeps with him.
Why I love this episode: Two words: Why her? Carrie asks Big this after the engagement party (that Carrie ditches) he gives her an BS answer. Samantha meets a guy who is "too big" and gets her first man friend. It's hilarious.
<3 4="" 66="" episode="" nbsp="" ny:="" p="" season="">
Synopsis: Carrie finds out Big is leaving NY and moving to California she wants to plan a big (no pun intended) NY send off, Miranda is very pregnant and due anytime.
Why I love this episode: This is post 9/11 so the episode is dedicated to city of NY so it's all warm fuzzes but the episode despite the drama with Samantha (she thinks Richard is cheating on her) but when Miranda gives birth to Brady (even though she considered having an abortion) and Carrie misses saying a proper goodbye to big he leaves her his vinyl and plane tickets = romantic
Luck be an Old Lady: Season 5 Episode 69
Synopsis: Carrie is hell bent getting the girls together for Charlotte's birthday who is denial turning older. So they all go to Atlantic City. The episode is hilarious.
Why I love this episode: That friendship overcomes over everything. Babies, relationships, and even getting older.
I love a charade: Season 5 Episode 74
Synopsis: The girls are invited to the Hampton's for a wedding and Samantha throws a party at her ex's house, Carrie runs into Jack Berger and thinks she's blown it by talking about her exes.Charlotte falls in love with her divorce lawyer Harry.
Why I love this episode: "What is Zsa zsa zu gone bad? Zsa zsa ewww." Nathan Lane guest stars and the girls think he's gay when he marries a straight women, the party goes south when Samantha gets jealous of some young girls. Charlotte accepts Harry for who he is until he says he's Jewish. Carrie and Berger get a chance as well.
Hop skip and a week: Season 6 Episode 80
Synopsis: Carrie and Berger are having "issues" with their relationship. Samantha gets Smith a billboard in times Square (the absolute hunk), Charlotte is going to synagogue to meet single Jewish guys post Harry. And Miranda struggles juggling her job and motherhood
Why I love this episode: Carrie goes to jury duty which is funny she thinks she can get out of it being a writer and all. She even vintage shops! And hello Absolute Hunk!! Miranda cuts back on her work load "After my died I was back in my office by Monday" The best part is Charlotte meets Harry at the singles night they reconnect and he proposes. The worst part: Berger and Carrie make up only when Carrie wakes up to an empty bed and a sticky note from Berger "I'm sorry I can't please don't hate me". Carrie knocks over the pink carnations the show ends.
The Post-It always sticks twice: Season 6 Episode 81
Synopsis: This is a continuation of Episode 80, it's weird that I would like episodes back to back but here I am! Carrie is pretty pissed about being dumped by a post it which I get. So the girls go to a night club called "Bed" Miranda gets all excited fitting into her skinny jeans.
Why I love this episode: Carrie runs into Berger's friends and goes ranty over the post it break up. It's hilarious then she and Samantha get high-Carrie gets arrested which was even funnier. Charlotte is in dread of her 2nd wedding because she's done all the bells and whistles then gets her groove back with a handful of bachelorettes .
An American Girl in Paris Part Deux: Season 6 Episode 94
This is the final episode!!! Synopsis: Carrie is in Paris with the artist boyfriend and is straight up miserable. Samantha's sex drive after chemo cease to exist , Miranda takes in her Mother in Law, Charlotte and Harry are trying to adopt a baby.
Why I love this episode: Everything comes together of course as it is the final episode no darn cliff hangers like a nowadays. Carrie finds her iconic "Carrie" necklace discovers who she lost, Samantha realizes how much she loves Smith (though she doesn't say it), Miranda has a bigger heart than we ever knew, Charlotte and Harry get their baby AND Big goes after Carrie he finally tells her she is the one!!! Hooray! The show ends with Carrie and the girls at their coffee shop. 3>
