North Platte: Fort Cody and Golden Spike Tower
My weekend didn't go as expected. I had made some plans but they fell through but I did start decorating for Halloween which I will be sharing soon!
Friday my dad, brother and I went to North Platte to visit Fort Cody and Golden Spike Tower/Bailey Yard. We went in early 2011 which I made a post about here
For those of you who don't know Buffalo Bill Cody started his Wild West Shows in North Platte in 1883. It's a big deal in NP (hence the saddles on all the Sinclair dinosaurs) but also so is the railroad. If you're into that sort of thing you can read the history about it here
The weather was rather questionable Friday lots of chiller temps and rain! But it did clear up by the time we made it to North Platte. Fort Cody is basically a tourist trap (at it's finest!!) but you can learn a little history of Buffalo Bill's show, etc and get some great (and some of it tacky) treasures!
After lunch at the Canteen (which is right across the street from Fort Cody) we made it to Golden Spike Tower/Bailey Yard!
You start in the gift shop, get an actual ticket, then you ride the elevator to the open air part of the tower which is basically outside of the tower along with view finders to get a close up view of the trains:
Our state is loaded with some many historic places it's amazing!!
Always putting the E in extra,
